We recently acquired a broad and impressive collection of works by the artist Frans van Bommel. He gained considerable admiration as early as the 1960s for his tranquil drawings and paintings. But there was almost no greater contrast than between the subtle artist Van Bommel and the fierce activist Van Bommel. He was the face of the Dutch artist protests around 1970 and occupied the Night Watch gallery in the Rijksmuseum as a protest against the established order. He served on the Amsterdam city council for the Kabpouterparijd (Gnome Party), together with the famous politician and writer Roel van Duijn. In the 1970s and 1980s, he achieved international fame with his “color projects” in redeveloped and revitalized neighborhoods in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. After 1995, he refocused entirely on his autonomous art and created beautiful series of drawings and paintings, inspired by his boat trips from the Netherlands to Northern and Central France. When you are interested we can send pictures of the other works by Van Bommel. Soon also on site.
