Description

Pieters (Groningen 1916- Amsterdam1979) studied interior design in Groningen and worked there as such. From 1947 to 1979 he lived in Amsterdam. Pieters also drew and painted and had been taught by Jan Jordens and Jan van der Zee. He made landscapes, portraits and flower still lifes. Pieters also created sculptures, material paintings and assemblages in a more abstract style. He often used materials from construction, such as waste wood, plastic, metal, plaster and mortar. In his material art, Pieters sought connections with innovative artists from the 1960s and 1970s, such as Bram Bogart, Jaap Wagemaker, Jan Schoonhoven and Joost Baljeu. Work of Pieters is in the collection of the Groninger Museum.

This work in mixed media is a good exemple of his ready made ‘arte povera’ art. In good condition, 54x43x3, signed and dated on the back, Ad Pieters 1965.
