Description
From the 1910s onward Dutch architecture and design saw the rise of the expressionism of the Amsterdamse School-style, named after the iconic brickbuildings, especially the Scheepvaart Huis, in Amsterdam. In the 1920s there was ofcourse the development of the more austere international Art Deco style with its Dutch variety, the Haagse School style. This impressive sideboard belongs to both worlds! Amsterdamse School details with a Haagse School vibe. The designer/producer is unknown, but there is a lot of quality in this piece of furniture in solid oak and wengé veneer. Originally there must have been a separate upstand, but in its present appearance, this sideboard has a beautiful architectural character. In very good condition, with a subtle patina, two keys, h. 95, w. 162, depth 55/51.
