In the Frisian town of Hindeloopen, a rich tradition of costume and painted furniture developed from the 16th century onwards, strongly influenced by the many international contacts of this city on the Zuiderzee. In the twentieth century there was a strong revival of traditional painted furniture in characteristic colours. Some studios such as Visser’s focused on arts and crafts. This set is signed VH, Visser Hindeloopen, and has a remarkable color scheme that completely fits in with the current interest in folk art and painted furniture.
