Description

Meindert Zaalberg (1907-1989) is an important Dutch ceramist, who, in 1937, continued his father’s business under the name Potterij Zaalberg. The first hand-thrown tableware was displayed at an exhibition in the Utrecht Jaarbeurs in 1937. After the Second World War, interest in handcrafted utensils grew, leading to a flourishing pottery industry. In 1946, Meindert traveled to Paris and focused on Babylonian art in the Louvre. In 1958, he purchased the Het Witte Huis (White House)  on Hoge Rijndijk. In 1962, he moved to his own new studio, the Pottershuis (Potter House) in Ommen. His work is of high quality, as well as in form as in glazes, with a wonderful and subtle Japanese vibe. This large vase is an excellent example of his work in the Ommen-periode. In very good condition, with a very tiny, invisible chip on the bottom, h. 35, diameter 18, signed Zaalberg PO
