The famous Dutch architect, teacher  and designer Dirk van Sliedregt worked several years for the most artistic rattan furniture makers in The Netherlands, Gebroeders Jonkers, in the village of Noordwolde, the centre of Dutch rattan design. From the mid-fifties into the seventies Van Sliedregt designed some of the most iconic chairs in the midcentury period. All his designs are very well documented in the study on his life and work by Anja Tollenaar and Femke Huisman, ‘Dirk van Sliedregt 1920-2020, meubelontwerper, interieurarchitect, docent’ (2013). This chair is Model 536 from 1957 (or earlier), with a beautiful woven rattan seat on a metal framework. In good condition, with some minor, almost invisible cracks in the rattan, h. 73, w. 65, d. 60, seat h. 37, seat d. 35. Also in the collection of the Nationaal Vlechtmuseum Noordwolde.
