W.C. Brouwer is one of the leading ceramists in the early 20th century in The Netherlands. In 1901 he founded his own factory, from 1905 on ‘N.V. Fabriek van Brouwer’s Aardewerk’, in Leiderdorp. Brouwer was very much influenced by the ‘Nieuwe Kunst-‘movement, led by the famous architect/designer Berlage. Brouwer worked for the interior design business ‘t Binnenhuis, also led by Berlage. Brouwer produced artistic earthenware products, but also ceramic sculptures in public space. In the 1920s he worked in the Art Deco style. This rare plate has a beautiful, typical Brouwer-green glaze en is in very good condition, 28×4, with its factory stamp and number, indicating the year of production, 1927
