Description
Beautiful plaque, two tiles, by the well-known French ceramist Roland Zobel (1945-2004). Born in October 1945 in Fort de France (Martinique), son of the Martinican writer Joseph Zobel (1915-2006), Roland François Zobel studied at the School of Fine Arts in Bourges, then specialized in ceramics at the International School of Faenza (Italy). He settled in the Gard, in the village of Générargues, between Alès and Anduze. The place is important because the city of Anduze was an important center of pottery production (tableware, tiles, pipes, fountains, oil jars, etc.) from the 17th century: legend has it that at the Beaucaire fair, a Cévennes potter saw Medici vases from Italy; on his return, he was inspired by them to create the Anduze vase, renowned today for its elegance with its garlands and macaroons. Roland’s first pieces take up the country’s glazed colours. This plaque is in very good condition, 37/23 (frame)/30×15, with label Roland Zobel, Les Cyclades, Anduze
