Description
Hilbert Boxem (1939-2001) is a well-known Dutch ceramist. Hilbert Boxem, born in Alkmaar, was a highly skilled ceramic artist known for his abstract, non-functional forms. His early work, starting in 1967, used stoneware clay, and he later switched to red-firing clay in 1995. Boxem aimed for a harmonious balance of form, material, and color, often using earthy tones like brown and beige. The piece from 1977 reflects his style of contrasting and complementing separate forms. In 1975 he moved from Lansmeer to the Frisian town of Franeker. Boxem also taught ceramics at the Minerva Academy in Groningen and passed away in 2001 in Franeker. His work is present in the leading ceramic collections in The Netherlands, Boijmans Van Beuningen Rotterdam and Princessehof Leeuwarden. In good condition, signed and dated Hilbert ’77, h. 42, w. 41, d. 12
