Jan Murk (JanMurk) de Vries (Bolsward, 11 November 1919 – Harlingen, 9 May 2015 was a Dutch goldsmith, glass painter, draftsman, painter, sculptor and monumental artist. He was born as Jan de Vries and added the name Murk to his name in the 1950s as a tribute to his mother Murkje. He studied at the Rijksnormaalschool voor Tekenonderwijs in Amsterdam. Here he became acquainted with the exhibitions of Cobra. In free painting and sculpture he is expressionist-abstract and in applied art abstract and figurative (according to Scheen in 1969-1970). He lived in Leeuwarden (1952-1964), Harlingen (1964-1986) and Firdgum. He was also active as a drawing teacher at the HBS St. Martinus in Bolsward for several years from 1964. Jan Murk de Vries passed away in Harlingen at the age of over 95. This sculpture is made in ‘chamotte’ clay, in very good condition, 1970s  h. 31, w. 167, signed Jan Murk
