Description
Iconic bench in the Pirrka-series by the Finnish designer Ilamri Taiovaara for Laukaan Puu 1955. Pirkka marks a temporary return to solid wood for Ilmari Tapiovaara, following his innovative work with tubular steel. The first in the series was the stool, intended by Tapiovaara as the ideal place to sit and cool down after a sauna. The Bar Stool, Bench, and Chair bear the same remarkable aesthetic. Frames are composed of solid birch, while seats and backrests are made from pinewood. The tapering frame and braces provide a charismatic contrast to the solidity and smooth curves of the pine elements. In good condition, with the usual marks of use; the seating is newly stained in the Tapiovaara-colour, length 180, d. 26, h. 40
